The monks channel

Le Canal des Moines

In the middle of the 12th century, one man named Etienne established a monastery for men and a monastery for women in Aubazine. To feed water to the men's monastery, the monks built a canal on the side of a steep valley. Unique to Europe, this canal is a pure work of art. The Canal testifies the cleverness of the monks’s as it bypasses natural obstacles and passes over the precipices. It was built to supply water to the monastery fish tank, irrigate monastery meadows and gardens and to activate the three water mills. It's an impressive man-made structure that is one to add to your list of "must see" tourist attractions.
